E-commerce is the High Street of the e-business world. Without it there would be absolutely no e-business at all.

So, what is e-commerce exactly?

Well, take a look at the High Street. What happens there?

• Goods are ordered from suppliers.
• The supplier is paid.
• Goods are displayed in the most effective way possible.
• Goods and services are sold.
• Said commodities are paid for.
• Some kind of warranty is provided in the way of customer support and satisfaction.
• Sales and value –added taxes are paid.
• Staff are hired and paid.
• Rental for space is paid. Hooray, in the virtual world rent is virtual too!
• The customers return the next time they require a similar commodity or service.
• This is the ideal High Street world and life should not be any different in the world of e-commerce.
• There are , of, course difficulties and challenges to providing all of these in a virtual world but, as the saying goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”.
